Hair Extension After Care

Congratulations and welcome to the world of Hair Extensions! Please read through these steps carefully as they will guide you through your experience wearing hair extensions. Remember, the key to preventing hair damage is making sure you take care of your extensions properly. If you have any questions please ask.
Tools you will need to take care of your extensions
~ A hair extension brush known as a Loop Brush. These are available for purchase at Glamour Beauty for $10.
~ Sulphur free Shampoo. Sulphur is the chemical that makes your hair lather, though it feels great the chemical accelerates the deterioration of your bond (keratin stick of the extension, tape used for skin weft hair, silicone in micro beads) so you want to stay away from sulphur based products. Recommended products Available at Glamour Beauty- Deep Muk Ultra Soft Shampoo $23.95
~ A highly moisturizing and hydrating Conditioner and Treatment. Your ends will need a good product to keep them hydrated. Keep away from products containing protein as these can damage the extensions. We recommended- Deep MUK Ultra Soft Conditioner $23.95 Deep MUK Ultra Soft Leave-in Conditioner $23.95 and Deep MUK 1 Minute Treatment $23.95
~ Heat protectant when using heated tools on your extensions and your own hair always use a heat protectant. We Recommended- Hot MUK Thermal Protector $23.95
~ A satin or silk pillowcase. This will help to protect both your hair and extension hair when you sleep and to prevent tangles. We recommended - Hot MUK Smoothing Serum $23.95 great for taming down any frizzes and keeps hair silky smooth.
Aftercare Steps
~ After receiving your hair extension service and washing them (no sooner than 48 hours for tape). Make sure to de-tangle your hair before you enter the shower. Lather your shampoo from the roots of your hair to the ends, making sure to focus around where the extensions are connected to your natural hair. Repeat shampoo if necessary or if a lot of product has been used in the hair.
~ Condition your hair from mid-lengths to ends. Keep conditioner away from the tape bonds that are close to your scalp to avoid slippage.
~ When going to bed with wet hair, tangles can occur and it may be difficult to untangle them once they dry overnight so it is best to dry them completely or dry off most moisture, use a leave in conditioner and plait the hair. Tape extensions need to be dried at the bonds as soon as possible after washing to avoid any slipping.
~ Use only recommended hair extension products. Brush your hair with the loop brush, and use only approved shampoos, conditioners and treatments.
~ Before going to bed, it is recommended that you plait your hair loosely or wear a loose ponytail to prevent the hair from getting tangled.
~ Brush your hair at least once a day from the nape up. Pay extra attention to the back of the head as this is the most common area that is neglected and make sure the extensions can freely move.
~ You can use heat tools on your hair, but make sure to avoid the root area, or the area where your bonds have been placed and always use a heat protectant. Support the hair when applying tension with a heated tools.
~ If you plan to go swimming in pool or seawater, use leave in conditioner in your hair, and rinse and shampoo immediately after. Plaiting the hair can also help to avoid any tangling.
~ Make sure to keep up to date with your maintenance as this will ensure your hair is kept healthy and free from damage that is caused from extensions being left in for too long.
Colouring your extensions is done so at your own risk and best to seek professional advice / service. This can also reduce your extensions lifespan. We do not take any responsibility for the hair when you colour the extensions.
Some hair extension methods and bonds can last longer than 3 months. However, we advise that you do not keep your hair extensions in for any longer than 8 weeks. Potential damage can occur from bonds being too low, or from excess weight caused by the hair you shed daily that accumulates (remember that your natural hair sheds anywhere from 50-150 hairs a day). Both scenarios can cause tension on the scalp and can lead to hair breakage. Your extensions should be maintained every 8 weeks to prevent any damage.
Enjoy your new hair and have fun with all the new styles you can achieve!!
