Spray Tan Preparation & Aftercare

Before
· Spray tans works on the upper layers of your skin, which are constantly being shed through natural exfoliation. Your Tan will last longer if you exfoliate your skin before getting your tan the night before. Naturally we shed a layer of skin every 7 days.
· By using a PH balanced body scrub or Tan-Off Mitt, exfoliate your body thoroughly, paying close attention to the knees, elbows, heels and chest. Make sure it is oil free so there is no residue left on the skin.
· You can moisturise up until the day before of your tan so your skin will have a good hydration level and this will help make the tan last longer.
· All forms of hair removal (shaving, waxing etc.) should be done 24 hours prior to your Spray Tan.
· On the day of the Tan ensure your skin is free from any moisturizers, make-up, perfumes and anti-perspiration deodorants as they will affect the outcome of your tan. Deodorants make tan go green
· Shampoo and Conditioner residue can create a barrier between your skin and the tan so make sure to rinse well and exfoliate your back.

DURING THE TAN
The Therapists at Glamour Beauty will discuss your needs, skin type and colour and will help you choose the best solution for you Spray Tan.
· When getting your Spray Tan, you may wear as much or as little as you would like. Most people wear just a G-String but this is a personal choice. Glamour Beauty operates in a discreet manner and fully respect client confidentially. We are too busy concentrating on spraying you perfectly to notice anything else!
· Disposable Hair Nets and G-Strings available. Spray tan can stick to light blonde hair and a hair net is advised to be worn. Spray Tan solution is water soluble and will wash out of you clothes and underwear.
· Barrier cream is recommended for use on extra dry areas of the body, palms of your hands, ankles and feet as its help protect these areas from over absorbing the tan solution. Please ask your therapist to provide you with the barrier cream.
· The application of the product takes less than 4 minutes and feels touch dry almost immediately.
The instant colour you see is called a bronzer. It is a cosmetic ingredient that therapist use’s as a guide to where they have sprayed and also an indication of colour depth. This is also to give you the client an instant tan.
We use extraction fans for your comfort.

AFTER
· It is recommended that you wear loose clothing after being sprayed as development of your tan will take 1-8 hours depending on choice of spray tan solution. We also have KafTanned kaftans available for purchase on the day which is perfect to wear after your tan, come in a large range of colour and patterns and are $24.95 each.
· If it is a wintery rainy day PLEASE bring clothes to cover all your skin, loose track pants, Hooded Jumper and Ugg-Boots are best. On a Hot day a loose dress is best
It is best not to wear a bra after your spray tan if possible
· Avoid physical activity that causes sweating, or excessive rubbing of the skin (exercise)
· Avoid all forms of water as they will deactivate the tanning process and leave you with patches.
· Be wary of seat belts as they can rub on your chest and take tan off the skin.
· Any undue friction from tight clothing may affect the final result.

WASH OFF
· Your first shower should be no longer than 2 minutes under Luke-warm water. Let the water run over you, the water will be a light brown colour as your bronzer washes off and your tan will be revealed. Do not use any body washes as this can strip the tan straight off. Wait until the water runs clear and there is not bronzer left on the skin. You can use your hand to lightly rub over the area to insure all bronzer is washed off. When bronzer is not washed off correctly it can leave streaks or water run lines down your body.
· When drying off don't rub with the towel but pat dry the skin gently and moisturise straight away
Rapid Spray Tans, with a quick wash off of 1-4 hours continue to develop for up to 24 hours after the first wash off. Do not be alarmed at the colour of your skin if it is lighter than expected after your first wash as it will continue to develop / darken.

MAINTENANCE
· Moisturise daily or twice daily to prevent your tan "cracking or fish scale affect". NOTE: Moisturizing leading up to a spray tan (but not on the day of your tan) will help prevent this also.
· Glamour Beauty has products available that are perfect for extending and maintaining the life of your tan. The Mediterranean Tan Extender is a tan extending moisturizer with a gentle tanning ingredient that prolongs the life span of your tan rrp $20.
· If you want to shave, you can do so but recommend leaving it as long as possible as it will ' shave' a bit of your tan off and the colour will fade.
· Avoid spas and swimming pools as the chemicals used to keep them clean will just strip your tan right off
· Do not scrub or exfoliate your skin until you see your tan start to fade, which can be anywhere after 5-7 days. The best way to remove an old faded tan is to use a Tan Off Mitt. There is nothing we have tried that comes close to how well this mitt will remove old tan, and also lasts with continual use for over 1 year. Tan-Off Mitts are available at Glamour Beauty for $25.
· When washing your hair try and avoid getting lots of shampoo on the skin as this can affect the PH of the skin and strip the tan
· Body washes can also strip spray tan as there PH level is designed to cleanse the skin. Solaire Skin Radiance Nourishing Body Wash is a body wash specifically designed for tans. A luxurious low foaming gel allows you to gently cleanse your skin whilst providing extra nourishment and hydration. Rrp $16
Going to the gym and working out cause’s perspiration which can also cause the tan to rub off a little bit. If you are getting a tan for a special occasion we recommend avoiding exercise until after the event.
